What can I say about me? I graduated with honors from the University of Northern Iowa with B.A. in English. I earned a Masters of Education in English from the University of Minnesota and a Certificate in Gifted Education from Hamline University. Over the past thirty some years I have taught in several academic settings including public, private, and home school. In addition, our family lived and worked as missionaries with The Navigators in Akademgorodok, Russia as leaders of a church we helped plant there. My husband, J. Andre, owns an architectural firm. Our son, J. Christopher, is Director of Communications and Campaigns at The Expectations Project and Founder at Recovering Evangelical, and our daughter, Claire, is a registered pediatric nurse at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Christopher and Claire are both married. We enjoy three beloved grandsons, two adorable grand nephews, three gorgeous grand nieces, and two unforgettable ‘grand puppies’. My greatest joy is my faith-walk with God. Other passions include teaching, reading, writing, poetry, gardening, camping, and serving our beloved local church and neighborhood. Andre and I now live in Minnesota in the land of 10,000 lakes and quite a few mosquitoes.

This blog is an eclectic, multi-faceted work in progress, a quilt in the making with varied hues both light and dark, irregular shapes, seemingly random impressions intermingled and placed to form my life story. It is a book in process written on the blank pages by the Master Designer. From this vantage point thru the lens of my faith-walk I will tell my stories, share my poems, and offer my personal reflections looking for joy, wonder, purpose, and hope each day along the along the way. Oh, Barb… I can still hear your soft voice asking me a question about Ernest Hemingway, only to have that question lead to another that I asked you. I always found your enthusiastic response to everything so refreshing, even as the politics of Richfield High School began to test both my patience and my ability to “be nice.” It was remarkable to me that you always seemed to stay above the fray, overlooking most of the inane comments some of our fellow English teachers made about one trivial thing or another. I sincerely hope to see your name on a book–somewhere in the near future. Your prose is as gentle as your voice and manner. Enjoy the Golden Twilight. SKS
